Karbon Korea Award of Appreciation

Eickmeyer & Associates, Inc. (E&A) was granted an Award of Appreciation on 13 March 2024 for it’s contributions to the development of Karbon Korea’s mobile demonstration plant. E&A designed and licensed the CATACARB hot potassium carbonate process for the demo unit, closely collaborating with Karbon Korea, the project EPC, and equipment vendors for the successful implementation of the carbon capture unit.

Karbon Korea is operating the demonstration plant for preliminary performance testing, prior to the substantial investment required to build a CO2 capture plant. The plant, named “Karfree V1,” is designed as a mobile type, enabling it to be transported and installed at locations specified by the client for testing purposes. This mobility and adaptability allow for the development of competitive carbon capture plants tailored to client needs.

After completion in early 2024, the model plant was installed at the KC Glass factory in Cheonan, South Korea in March 2024, where it successfully completed approximately six months of trial operation. In 2025, it was selected for a Seoul Metropolitan Government support program and subsequently relocated to the Gangnam Resource Recovery Facility in Irwon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea. There, it successfully carried out a demonstration project to capture carbon dioxide from incineration flue gas, marking the first such case in Korea.

In particular, during the demonstration project at the Gangnam Resource Recovery Facility, measurements conducted by the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL), a nationally accredited testing institute, confirmed outstanding performance, achieving a CO₂ purity of 99.11% and a capture rate of 96.26%.
