Proprietary CO2 capture process design selected to achieve net zero emissions goal.

July 27, 2023 (LAWRENCE, KS) — CATACARB®, a global leader in CO2 capture technology, completed the design of the CO2 removal process for Stockholm Exergi’s CO2 capture facility at its Värtan biomass-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant. CATACARB’s proprietary design, which includes a hot potassium carbonate (HPC) solvent process, will support the capture capacity of almost 800,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, helping Stockholm Exergi achieve its net zero emissions goal while meeting energy demand and complying with commitments of the Paris Agreement. The EU Innovation Fund is providing EUR 180,000,000 grant toward plant construction.

“We are excited to play an integral role in Europe’s first large-scale negative emissions plant,” said Gary Buckholz, president of Eickmeyer & Associates, Inc. the parent company of CATACARB. “As the effects of climate change become more pronounced, we’ve been steadfastly expanding our CO2 removal and capture capabilities to other industries and applications. We are pleased see momentum in environmentally conscious operations and are thrilled that our expertise and innovation has been recognized by Stockholm Exergi.”

CATACARB will continue to work directly with Stockholm Exergi, providing support throughout the construction and start-up phases of the project to ensure optimal process performance.
